DesignArt Networks Announces DAN3000 Base Station SoC Family

3/15/10 - DesignArt Networks announced its next-generation DAN3000 SoC family. With the new DAN3000 SoC platform, DesignArt Networks shattered current performance levels for mobile infrastructure SoCs -- driving deep into 4G LTE and IMT Advanced territory, enabling the deployment of pervasive multi-gigabit mobile radio access networks (RANs).

"Our first-generation SoC platform is the only fully integrated mobile base station SoC in real service deployments today," said Oz Barak, DesignArt Networks CEO. "With the DAN3000 product family we are taking the next step, establishing a new playing field -- blazing a trail to the 4G end game. With more than one Gbps of wireless service capacity, the DAN3000 delivers true 4G performance, and does so based on a completely software-defined, open multi-protocol SoC architecture."

The DAN3000 SoC platform supports concurrent operation of 2G, 3G and 4G services at the full performance level of multi-sector macro base stations -- providing operators with a seamless software evolution path for ultra-compact, single-box base stations and relays. This ensures both future-proof and backwards compatible in-field service upgradability all the way to full 4G, for example LTE Advanced.

"The application scope of the DAN3000 SoC family in mobile LTE, WiMAX and HSPA networks is virtually unlimited," said Frank Dickson, Vice President of Research at In-Stat. "DesignArt Networks has integrated all four critical processing layers of a high-gain, multi-sector base station architecture into a single software-defined SoC platform. Hence, the DAN3000 product family brings a single R&D framework to vendors for the development of cost-optimized pico, micro and macro base station products, remote radio heads, and high-capacity gigabit backhaul systems."

With a plethora of differentiating hardware and software features, DesignArt's open SoC platforms aren't just the top performers. The product family also provides the only available solution for ultra-compact, single-box designs of high-gain pico, micro and macro base stations, for example collapsing an entire 4-sector 20Mhz FDD-LTE base station onto just one single chip that consumes just under 5 Watts.

"We've packed many differentiating signal and packet processing capabilities into the DAN3000 SoC platform, and enough performance headroom into all four processing layers of the SoC architecture," said Assaf Touboul, CTO of DesignArt Networks. "Vendors can now deliver any kind of base station product in an ultra-compact, single-box form factor. This architecture essentially reduces the entire mobile radio access network to its bare essence -- the radio. It will be extremely difficult for the industry to find further reductions in cost, power consumption, weight, or foot-print."

The DAN3000 product family is comprised of several products targeting picocells, micro base stations, macro base stations, remote radio heads (RRH), and high-capacity gigabit PtP and PtMP backhaul systems. First samples will be available to select customers in Q3 of 2010.
