Funkwerk selects Sierra Wireless HSPA AirPrime Intelligent Embedded Modules for Powerful, Mobile Broadband Wireless Router

2/16/10 - Sierra Wireless (NASDAQ: SWIR) and Funkwerk Enterprise Communications GmbH announced that Funkwerk has selected the Sierra Wireless AirPrime MC8790 HSPA Embedded Module to provide high-speed mobile broadband connectivity to the Funkwerk bintec RS120wu router. The bintec RS120wu router utilizes the AirPrime MC8790 module to offer speeds up to 7.2 megabits per second (Mbps) on the downlink and up to 5.76 Mbps on the uplink and can be used as a primary and back up connection.

"Sierra Wireless is a proven leader in the wireless broadband industry. The company is committed to continually enhancing its line of intelligent embedded module products, ensuring we can satisfy customer demands for secure, reliable, high speed connectivity in primary or remote environments," said Torsten Urban, Vice President Product Management for Funkwerk.

Sold worldwide, the bintec RS120wu is a fully equipped, multi protocol router that comes complete with five Gigabyte Ethernet ports which support flexible configuration for LAN, WAN or DMZ, an external UMTS antenna, and a SFB port to support fiber optic connections. The RS120wu comes with extensive IPSec implementation, five client licenses and remote management tools. Its industrial housing makes it ideal for critical enterprise applications as well as remote locations and home offices.

"Mobile broadband offers a viable alternative for small to medium business customers who need to get network connections up and running quickly, or need a back-up connection in critical applications," said Pierre Piver, Vice President, EMEA Embedded and OEM sales for Sierra Wireless. "In this type of application, the performance and reliability of any connectivity solution is essential and we are pleased that Funkwerk has selected Sierra Wireless to deliver mobile broadband connectivity to its router."

The Funkwerk bintec RS120wu router along with the Sierra Wireless AirPrime embedded module is on display this week at the Mobile World Congress event in Barcelona , Spain , from 15 to 18 February, 2010 in The Avenue at stand AV36.

Sierra Wireless AirPrime MC8790 and MC8790V intelligent embedded modules provide wide area wireless data access at speeds up to 7.2 Mbps downlink and up to 5.76 Mbps uplink. The modules offer UMTS/HSPA and quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE network access for roaming on high-speed networks worldwide. In addition, antenna diversity improves fringe performance on global HSPA networks using the 850, 1900 and 2100 Mhz bands.
