Comzatel Selects Airspan to Deploy a Mobile WiMAX Broadband Wireless Network 10/22/09 - Airspan Networks Inc. (PINKSHEETS: AIRO) announced Comzatel, an African wireless communications provider, selected Airspan WiMAX equipment for a mobile, 4G network in Mozambique.
Comzatel is offering a variety of next-generation broadband services to business customers throughout the Maputo region, the capital and southernmost city. Delivered through Airspan's 16e advanced technology WiMAX solution, customers are now able to access high-speed Internet while at home, in the office or on-the-go. Airspan's WiMAX base station technology provides the capacity, range and efficiency required by operators for maintaining successful and profitable business plans. Operating on the 2.3 GHz frequency band, this mobile base station is being deployed with USB, desktop and outdoor subscriber devices in support of Comzatel's ambitious expansion plans. "Comzatel has a vision where every business and residential user will be able to access next-generation technology at an affordable price," said Mlungisi Hlongwane, the General Director of Comzatel. "We are working quickly to complete our initial coverage of Maputo and we will soon expand the network nationwide. We are extremely pleased with the equipment and service Airspan has delivered. In cooperation with the Mozambican Government, we will ensure that, in addition to corporate users, ordinary citizens and education institutions have access to high-speed data services at affordable costs." Mozambique is counted among the African nations with the lowest number of telephone and Internet users. The Comzatel initial network is expected to be largely completed by the end of the year. "Airspan is supplying our state-of-the-art mobile WiMAX HiperMAX Base Station," commented Amit Ancikovsky, President, Sales & Products for Airspan. "With a proven track record, this product delivers advanced broadband services with a strong business model incorporating speedy deployment and pay-as-you-grow capabilities. We look forward to continuing to work with Comzatel in developing their network, while strengthening Airspan's position in emerging markets such as Africa." WiMAX technology, with a vibrant ecosystem, is viewed as one of the best solutions to meet the needs of emerging markets worldwide. Airspan's advanced WiMAX platform can overcome challenges often met by rural and emerging markets such as sparse populations, rough terrain and limited budgets. Earlier this week, Airspan received WiMAX Forum® certification for the MacroMAXe Mobile Base Station, demonstrating the strength of Airspan's full suite of mobile base stations operating on the 2.3, 2.5, 3.5 and 3.65 GHz frequency bands.
