Nortel CVAS Shows Latest Broadband Wireless Carrier TDM to VoIP Innovations at Supercomm 2009

10/15/09 - The latest Nortel (OTCBB:NRTLQ) Carrier VoIP and Application Solutions (CVAS) designed to help service providers increase revenues, optimize network efficiency and deliver advanced IP communications to business and residential subscribers will blow into the Windy City at the Supercomm 2009 tradeshow (booth #2120) taking place October 21-23.

Nortel's solutions offer a number of benefits to service providers, including increased revenue potential, subscriber loyalty and stickiness; and the ability to offer "one-stop-shopping" bundled services to business and residential subscribers. These solutions leverage Nortel's deep carrier VoIP and telephony expertise and long-standing track record in transitioning TDM to VoIP services to help service providers deliver advanced IP services that improve the communication experience for consumers and businesses.

"Nortel has one of the most comprehensive suites of IP-based business solutions that equip service providers to deliver enhanced business communications to large enterprises, small and medium sized businesses and residential subscribers," said Sita Lowman, Leader CVAS Marketing, Nortel. "Our Supercomm booth will feature several innovative solutions, centered around the theme of IP Powered Life: Delivering Simpler and Richer Communications Everyday. These solutions help to improve service provider revenue potential and subscriber stickiness by delivering more connected, personalized and productive communications to people at the office, at home or on the go."

Nortel Supercomm demo highlights:

- Business Solutions that improve business productivity and allow service providers to offer advanced services across legacy TDM, hosted VoIP, PBX and mobile devices including the iPhone. They include carrier-hosted capabilities that help service providers to offer integrated communication applications including instant messaging, telephony, conferencing, video, web collaboration, file sharing and presence to business subscribers.

- State-of-the-Art VoIP Core Solutions that help increase service provider revenues by delivering advanced IP communications to businesses and consumers. They include Nortel's market leading CS 2000 IP multimedia softswitch with new hardware and software features that give service providers more capacity, substantial power savings, and a suite of new SIP applications that will be unveiled at the show; and, Nortel's CS 1500 regional Class 5 VoIP solution that equips regional carriers to offer advanced VoIP and web controlled telephony applications including click-to-call, terminating call manager and single number service.

- Consumer Solutions that help service providers to compete with services offered by 'over-the-top' Internet providers. They include a Web Portal that lets subscribers conveniently access features via the web from a secure portal offered by their carrier; Mobile Extension that utilizes Bluetooth and SIP capabilities to instruct the network to ring the subscriber's landline if their mobile device is in range; and an Entertainment Communications and Convergence application that lets subscribers make calls, view call logs, and send and receive Instant Messages from their TV using their remote control.

- LG-Nortel Wave Division Multiplexing Passive Optical Network (WDM-PON) Ethernet Access solutions that improve the service provider's ability to deliver high-speed multimedia services to end users. The LG-Nortel demo will feature 1G to the home/business, showing online gaming, triple play, and home PC online backup featured on the new state of the art LG 3D -TV Plasma monitor.

Attendees at Supercomm will also be able to hear from Nortel CVAS experts including John McCready, VP, product development, who is speaking in the session, titled: "The Engaged Consumer - Maximizing Online Technologies for Web Sites to Interact with Clients and Drive Business," on Thursday, October 22 at 11 a.m. In addition, Jim McEachern, VP, multiservice forum manger, application enabler standards, will participate in the ATIS Technology Conference session: "Digital Value Chain" on Thursday, October 22 at 11:00 a.m. and Sita Lowman, marketing leader, will participate in "No Strings Attached: Wireless networking Growth and Challenges" session, which takes place on Friday, October 23 at 11:00 a.m.

Nortel has shipped more than 115 million Carrier VoIP and Multimedia ports to more than 350 wireline and wireless carriers globally. Nortel CVAS has customer deployments in all continents with leading carriers and has been consistently ranked as the number one supplier in the carrier softswitch market since 2002. In addition, Nortel provides VoIP solutions to two thirds of IDC's worldwide listing of top 20 carriers (by revenue).

Supercomm takes place in Chicago, Illinois October 21-23 in the McCormick Convention Center.
