Broadband Wireless Operators Begin to Focus on Building Green Communications Towers

4/2/09 - Broadspot World Wide Wireless announced that its CEO Nyhl Henson will moderate the "Is Your Tower Green Enough?" panel at the CTIA's Tower Technology Summit in Las Vegas on Thursday, April 2, 2009.

The panel, which features industry leaders Stenia Dziadiw, VP Power Systems and Green Energy Group, BCI, Saswata Basu, GM, Energy & Security Solutions, Harris Stratex Networks, Jake MacLeod, Principal VP, CTO & Bechtel Fellow, Engineering & Technology, Bechtel Communications, and Jose Alvarez, Business Solutions Director, Ericsson, will address the requirements for green sustainability that must be addressed by tower owners as they grapple with the challenges and opportunities that confront the Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) sector. Currently, this industry sector contributes approximately 2% of global carbon emissions. There is huge capacity to reduce this percentage by improving on energy efficiency and decreasing power consumption.

Mr. Henson is active in investigating alternative energy sources such as solar, wind power and biofuels to facilitate the deployment of broadband Internet access in rural areas. He also serves on the Board of Directors of the Global Energy Network Institute (GENI), ( ). The GENI Initiative focuses on linking renewable energy resources around the world using international electricity transmission.

The Honorable Al Gore will deliver the keynote speech at this event. Former Vice President Al Gore is Chairman of Current TV, an Emmy award winning, independently owned cable and satellite television nonfiction network for young people based on viewer-created content and citizen journalism. He is the author of the best sellers "Earth in the Balance" and "An Inconvenient Truth" and is the subject of an Oscar-winning documentary.
