Mitec Announces First Point-to-Point Fixed Wireless Agreement from Telecom Customer

1/7/08 - Mitec Telecom Inc. (TSX: MTM) announced that it has received the first purchase agreement for fixed wireless components from a new customer and leading telecom provider. This is related to a general supply agreement that the company announced in November 2008. It is the first in a series of agreements that Mitec expects to receive from this customer over a long-term period.

"This customer is one of the industry's largest point-to-point telecom providers. The relationship we have established with them gives Mitec the opportunity to plan additional capacity with the confidence that minimum volumes will be realized. The fact that they have chosen us to supply these fixed wireless components is a testament to both our technology and manufacturing capability," said Mitec CEO Dan Piergentili.

"Fixed wireless" refers to a point-to-point direct wireless network connection between permanent antennas. Point-to-point solutions are the predominant method for linking unwired cellular sites in emerging markets such as Africa, Asia and South America. They allow operators to provide faster and cheaper mobile coverage across larger areas.

The components will be developed in early 2009 at Mitec's recently expanded manufacturing facility in Suzhou, China, with volume deliveries commencing mid-year.

Due to confidentiality provisions, Mitec is generally not able to disclose the names of its major customers or the financial data related to sales transactions.

Mitec is a leading designer and provider of radio frequency (RF) products for the telecommunications and satellite communications industries, as well as a variety of other sectors. Mitec sells its products worldwide to network providers for incorporation into high-performing wireless networks used in voice and data/internet communications. Headquartered in Montreal, Canada, Mitec also operates facilities in California and China. Mitec Telecom Inc. is listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange under the symbol MTM. On-line information about Mitec is available at www.mitectelecom.com .
