Octasic Provides Echo Cancellation for ZTE Corporation's 3G Wireless Products

1/5/08 - Octasic Inc. announced that it is expanding its business with ZTE Corporation to provide echo cancellation and voice quality enhancement (VQE) solutions. ZTE Corporation's 3G Platform Division has selected Octasic's OCT6100 devices for integration into its high-density Base Station Controllers (BSC) for GSM networks.

ZTE's ZXG10 iBSC is based on an all IP platform and has integrated the Octasic OCT6100 solution including Tandem Free Operation (TFO). Also known as Vocoder bypass, TFO is specified by the 3GPP standards group to help improve voice quality in mobile-to-mobile calls. By allowing voice to cross the network without unnecessary decoding and re-encoding, better voice quality is possible. Octasic provides support for TFO with its echo cancellation solutions for 2G and 3G systems. Octasic's carrier-grade echo cancellation and VQE solutions reduce system costs by offering unparalleled area density and low power consumption.

With the recent consolidation of the six largest telecommunications companies in China into three, there is accelerated pressure on deploying Fixed Mobile Convergence (FMC) solutions to reduce costs. Preserving existing network equipment is a necessity to reduce capital expenditures during the transition. As a result, solutions such as ZTE's iBSC and BSCplus architecture provide the flexibility and integration required to make this transition cost-effective. Echo cancellation becomes required at new and more varied points in the network, which is driving new demand for efficient solutions such as Octasic's OCT6100 and associated TFO capability.

"The voice quality results and channel densities we are able to obtain with Octasic's solution are so impressive, that we are using their solution across several product platforms," says Xu QiaoMing, 3G Platform Hardware R&D Manager at ZTE Corporation. "We are very pleased with the outstanding support that Octasic's engineering group provided us during our development and design phases. Their efficiency made it easy to incorporate Octasic's echo cancellation solution onto our platforms."

"Having another of China's largest telecommunications companies select our technology is a clear sign that our investment in business development activities in China continues to be fruitful," says Fabio Gambacorta, vice president of sales and business development at Octasic. "The adoption of our voice quality technology by ZTE Corporation demonstrates Octasic's commitment to delivering high-quality, industry-leading products."
