Extreme Networks Selected by Mapping and GPS Leader DeLorme to Transition to High Performance Network 12/12/08 - Extreme Networks, Inc.'s (NASDAQ: EXTR) Ethernet network solutions are helping DeLorme map its future with better support for its employees, applications and its millions of customers with a new network solution. The Extreme Networks Ethernet network provides advantages over DeLorme's previous network infrastructure from Cisco by providing higher bandwidth delivered per port, intuitive and simple-to-operate management, and superior price/performance.
DeLorme , located in Yarmouth, Maine, is a leading global provider of a variety of mapping software, GPS, and data solutions for consumer and professional markets. DeLorme supports a mid-size enterprise network that shares the standard connectivity challenges of many growing businesses, accomplishing great things while working with a small staff and while staying under budget. DeLorme employees often deal with intense, graphic-rich files related to GIS and satellite imagery that are often hundreds of gigabytes in size and require an industrial-strength network. Their previous network would become unpredictable under such loads and was also difficult to manage and diagnose when outages occurred. "We used to be a Cisco shop but with Extreme Networks, the performance upgrade, impressive toolsets along with its focus on network fundamentals have really come to light," said Craig Wood, senior system engineer for DeLorme. "We have reduced our network maintenance time by 50 percent, and overall, Extreme Networks' solution has been solid, proving highly capable to work today and grow with us into the future." DeLorme met its challenge for more predictable connectivity with a converge network solution featuring Extreme Networks' BlackDiamond® 8800 modular switch and Summit® X450 fixed switches for the edge, delivering 10 Gigabit speeds between servers in the core and Gigabit connectivity to the desk with essential features for resiliency, integrated security, and standards-based Power over Ethernet (PoE). Extreme Networks switching portfolio works with a single operating system, ExtremeXOS ®, so that software updates to switches are both simple to understand and seamless to carry out. "Now more than ever businesses are realizing that their network infrastructure should be both simple and predictable," said Paul Hooper, chief marketing officer for Extreme Networks. "Our strategic Ethernet solutions provide the opportunity to reduce operational expenses and drive towards the bottom line, all while delivering a great network experience."
