TCS Wins $1.1 Million Contract to Provide U.S. Marine Corps With Professional Services for Wireless Point-to-Point Link Systems

10/14/08 - TeleCommunication Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: TSYS) announced it has received a contract valued at $1.1 million providing Wireless Point-to-Point Link (WPPL) professional services to the U.S. Marine Corps. WPPL systems provide deployed Marines with point-to-point and point-to-multipoint secure transmission of voice, video and data communications over terrestrial microwave radio links.

TCS will teach five-day WPPL operator training classes to USMC communication operators that include both classroom and field exercises. This contract delivery is through a strategic business partner and is separate and in addition to the company's 2007 World-Wide Satellite Systems contract.

"TCS has emerged as a communications technology leader and the preferred provider of WPPL solutions to many of the deployed military units in Iraq," said Michael Bristol, senior vice president of the TCS Government Solutions Group. "We're dedicated to providing both systems and professional services that ensure our troops can communicate with one another no matter where they are located."

The TCS WPPL Network Package provides Marines deployed in remote areas of the world with point-to-point and point-to-multipoint, line-of-sight and non-line-of-sight transmission of voice, video and data communications. TCS WPPL provides critical last-mile communications and allows warfighters to extend their Local Area Network (LAN) to deployed locations by providing services over terrestrial microwave radio links. The TCS WPPL allows for Non-Classified Internet Protocol Router (NIPR), Secret Internet Protocol Router (SIPR), Voice over IP (VoIP), Video, and Defense Switched Network transmission of vital information up to 35 miles point-to-point or 15 miles point-to-multipoint.

The TCS Government Solutions Group began as a systems integrator in 1987. Today, TCS provides engineering, management, and professional services to the public sector and is a leading provider of fixed and deployable communication solutions for government customers and mobile operators requiring high reliability and security, including the U.S. Army, U.S. Air Force, U.S. Navy, Unified Combatant Commands, U.S. Department of State, U.S. Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Secret Service, and various U.S. intelligence agencies.
