WiMAX Vendors Demonstrate Multi-Band WiMAX Network Operating at 2.5GHz and 3.65GHz

10/6/08 - Airspan Networks (NASDAQ: AIRN), Fujitsu Network Communications, and Starent Networks, Corp. (NASDAQ: STAR) announced that they demonstratied a multi-band, interoperable WiMAX network at WiMAX World 2008, held in Chicago last week.

The demonstration utilized Airspan's HiperMAX base station operating at 3.65 GHz, the Fujitsu BroadOne WX300 macrocell base station operating at 2.5 GHz, and Starent's Multimedia Core Platform Access Service Network (ASN) Gateway. Airspan's MiMAX Q-Series USB devices will provide access to the wireless network at each respective company's booths.

This demonstration showcased the three companies' commitment to interoperability by creating a seamless network consisting of base stations from two vendors -- Airspan and Fujitsu -- operating on different frequency bands interconnected by the ASN gateway from a third company -- Starent -- using open-standard interfaces developed by the WiMAX Forum.

The first public demonstration of its kind, this solution highlighted the interoperability built into the core of WiMAX specifications and underscores Airspan, Fujitsu and Starent Networks' commitment to open network interfaces, which they believe to be crucial to the success of WiMAX.
