Proxim Wireless Provides Technology to Keep Athletes Connected During Beijing 2008 Olympic Games

8/28/08 - Proxim Wireless Corporation (NASDAQ: PRXM) announced that the National Olympic Committee (NOC) National Sports Federation (NSF) in the Netherlands has deployed Proxim Wireless ORiNOCO AP-4000M Access Points at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.

The NOC*NSF selected Proxim as the wireless technology of choice to keep the entire Dutch Olympic team connected to their friends and families throughout their stay in Beijing. Due to the five hour time difference between Beijing and the Netherlands, email tends to be the easiest form of communication for keeping in touch with people back home.

ZCC, a Proxim VAR based in Arnhem in the Netherlands, and Proxim distributor Anixter Netherlands specified and delivered the internet access solution for the NOC*NSF. The solution was designed for maximum performance, ease-of-use and maintenance during the Olympic Games, to take the pressure off the NOC*NSF technical staff during the event.

"Internet access and email are important services we provide to the Dutch team, and we're pleased to be working with ZCC and Proxim, who we trust to deliver a robust and secure wireless network," stated Christian Baerends, NOC*NSF onsite technical specialist.

The Proxim AP-4000M Access Points are easy to deploy and can be added to the network without the need for any onsite configuration, creating a self-forming and self-healing network.

"Proxim's products are renowned for their reliability, flexibility and security so we're sure that the wireless network will be a blessing for the Dutch team. Furthermore, we chose the Proxim products because they are simple to deploy and we're confident that they will not cause any maintenance issues for the NOC*NSF technical staff during the event," explained Ben Huigen, CEO at ZCC.

"Having provided part of the wireless infrastructure solution at the Athens 2004 Olympic Games, we're really pleased to be chosen again to provide a wireless solution. It's great to know that we're delivering a much needed service for the Dutch athletes and trust that it will ease their long stay in Beijing," said Robert Veenis, Director International Channel Sales at Proxim Wireless.
