Wi-LAN Licensing Program Squeezes More Money Out of Customers

6/26/08 - Wi-LAN Inc. (TSX:WIN), a leading group of patent enforcement attorneys, announced that it has signed four more license agreements for its V-chip technology, bringing the number of companies under license to 90. The Company has signed license agreements for its U.S. V-chip patent with Changzhou Xingqiu Electronic Co., Ltd., Shenzhen Jiuzhou Electric Group Co. Ltd., CAST Information Co., Ltd. and Skardin Industrial Corp. These agreements each provide for the payment of running royalties for the life of the patent.

"These new V-chip licensees give our licensing program additional momentum and move us closer to our goal of licensing all digital television receivers sold in the United States," stated Najmul Siddiqui, President, Wi-LAN V-chip Corp. "With the NTIA Digital Converter Box Program sales nearing 500,000 per week, we are confident this segment will generate positive results for Wi-LAN."

The Company also announced that it has signed six-year running royalty licenses for Wi-Fi-related technologies with 3JTECH Co., Ltd and a company whose identity cannot be disclosed. "With 27 wireless licensees now signed, 17 of which have been signed so far in our fiscal year 2008 alone, our wireless licensing program continues to make solid progress," said Andrew Parolin, VP, Wireless Technologies.

In addition, Wi-LAN announced that it has entered into a six-year running royalty license agreement relating to its DSL patents with a company whose identity cannot be disclosed.

These agreements bring the total number of license agreements signed by Wi-LAN in the first eight months of its fiscal year 2008 to 44. Licensing discussions continue with many companies of all sizes and Wi-LAN expects to sign additional agreements in the near future.
