Nextlink Provides Broadband Wireless Connections of Up to 600Mbps in the New York City Metro Area

6/6/08 - Nextlink Wireless, Inc., a leading provider of broadband wireless access solutions announced that it has expanded its nationwide coverage with the availability of broadband wireless services in the New York City metropolitan area.

This expansion into New York means that Nextlink can now meet the increasing bandwidth needs of communication carriers and businesses in more then 80 of the largest U.S. markets. Nextlink's expansion into the New York metropolitan area will enable customers in New York City, Nassau, Suffolk and Westchester counties along with customers in several surrounding New Jersey and Connecticut counties to take advantage of the Nextlink broadband wireless services.

Nextlink products will deliver carrier grade, high-speed connectivity up to 800 Mbps. They also enable true network redundancy offering a cost effective disaster recovery solution for financial institutions, medical organizations and other businesses that operate in the New York City metropolitan area. The Nextlink products will provide broadband wireless services for communication service providers and businesses to transition seamlessly from traditional telecommunications services to more advanced networking solutions based upon Internet Protocol (IP) technology.

"The rapid evolution of the telecommunications industry has created opportunities for us to expand our network reach and in turn the reach of our current and future customers," said Tim Dunne, vice president - business operations of Nextlink Wireless. "Nextlink is excited to meet the growing needs of communication service providers, businesses, and government agencies located in the New York metropolitan region through the launch of our broadband wireless services."

Nextlink's broadband wireless services are a cost-effective alternative to similar wireline-based products. Nextlink services can be engineered to provide up to 99.999 percent network availability with the capability to extend high-speed connectivity to places where fiber optic-based networks are not available today. Nextlink can offer high-speed network extensions from 30Mbps to Gigabit Ethernet (Gig-E) up to 800 Mbps with the capacity to transport large amounts of data, voice and video. Nextlink's offerings assist service providers to meet emerging demands by delivering:

-- Last mile broadband wireless network access solutions for wireline telecommunications service providers to extend the reach of their fiber networks or as an alternative to higher cost, leased lines from the local telephone companies; and

-- Scalable, middle mile backhaul solutions that enable wireless service providers to more cost-effectively support next generation mobile applications, content and data across their networks.

With the addition of New York City, Nextlink carrier-grade broadband wireless services is now available in over 80 metropolitan markets, including Boston, Detroit, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, Phoenix, San Diego, Philadelphia, Akron, Austin, Baltimore, Cleveland, Colorado Springs, Columbus, Denver, Fort Lauderdale, Kansas City, Memphis, Minneapolis/St. Paul, Nashville, Oakland, Pittsburgh, Portland, Sacramento, St. Louis, San Antonio, San Francisco, San Jose, Tucson, Wilmington, Atlanta, Las Vegas, Miami, Seattle, Tampa and Washington, DC.

Nextlink's broadband wireless solutions utilize licensed local multipoint distribution system (LMDS) wireless spectrum in the 28GHz - 31GHz and 39GHz spectrum ranges and are capable of supporting network speeds up to 800 Mbps. Nextlink's services, which are available directly to communications service providers and indirectly to businesses through its reseller partners, include:

-- Metro Ethernet and Private Line Access: -- Provides carriers the ability to offer businesses and government agencies end-to-end wireless connectivity or wireless to wireline connectivity to facilitate the convergence of voice and data applications over a single IP infrastructure. -- Wireless Backhaul: -- Provides wireless service providers with a cost-effective and reliable alternative for backhaul connectivity to cell sites and leased line replacements for wireline telecommunications providers. -- Network Resiliency: -- Provides truly redundant, battery-backed up services for continuity of operations or mission critical network functions
