GHX Mobile Solutions' SalesAccelerator Tool Adds Capability to Read RFID Tags, as Well as Barcodes

5/8/08 - GHX Mobile Solutions announced that is has released a new version of its SalesAccelerator handheld inventory management tool that can now read RFID tags in addition to barcodes. Using this expanded capability, healthcare manufacturers can more broadly utilize SalesAccelerator to improve inventory and order management processes.

SalesAccelerator is also the only mobile device application that is integrated to the GHX electronic trading exchange, which enables healthcare providers and suppliers to transact business with one another electronically. By supporting multiple auto identification and capture technologies and leveraging the exchange, GHX Mobile Solutions can enable a fully touchless billing and replenishment process for healthcare providers and suppliers.

"While many hospitals and manufacturers still rely on traditional barcodes, RFID is being used increasingly in the cardiac implant market," says Brad Graves, general manager, GHX Mobile Solutions. "GHX Mobile Solutions works closely with its manufacturer customers to continually upgrade our products to meet their changing market needs."

Using the new version of Sales Accelerator, a representative from a supplier or provider organization can enter an area where RFID tagged products exist and immediately count the inventory on hand. As products are used and inventory counts are reduced, the user can generate a billing and/or a replenishment order, which, if desired, can be sent to the hospital's materials management inventory system and transacted via GHX. In this way, hospitals are better able to track their high-dollar item purchases, which they have limited visibility to today. At the same time, suppliers can receive purchase orders as soon as the products are used in the operating room, as opposed to the lag time that often exists today."

The RFID interface is supported through two different RFID readers: the Sirit Plug-n-Play SDIO RFID reader and Socket Communications' CF RFID Reader. In addition to radio frequency scanning, GHX continues to offer 2D and 3D barcode formats as input methods for inventory management.
