SiGe Semiconductor Reports 2007 Revenues of US $69 Million

04/01/08 - SiGe Semiconductor reported that revenues for 2007 were US $69 million, an increase of 40 percent year-over-year. Sales were fueled by the growing demand for SiGe's radio front-end integrated circuits (ICs) and modules, which enable the next generation of wireless computing, home entertainment and mobile applications.

"I am extremely pleased with the progress SiGe made in 2007. We've introduced leading-edge technology, and secured marquee customers that include some of the industry's leading names in consumer electronics. We've expanded our channel partners, and boosted our local design support to more effectively see designs to production. We will continue these strategies to ensure our continued success at revenue and market share growth during the next fiscal year," said William Burke, SiGe's chief financial officer.

SiGe Semiconductor delivers innovative radio frequency (RF) solutions enabling the wireless multimedia networks and applications consumers depend on every day. The company's comprehensive portfolio provides OEMs with performance, range, and reliability when integrating 802.11b/g/a and n Wi-Fi (R), Bluetooth(R), WiMAX(TM), and GPS capability into their computing, home entertainment and mobile systems. As a result, end users can enjoy the latest wireless services, from working remotely to personal navigation, wireless gaming and video distribution through the home.

During 2007, SiGe Semiconductor expanded its award winning product lines with new RF front-end solutions that allow manufacturers to effectively support wireless multimedia services as well as the next generation of convergence in consumer electronics. With marquee customers including HP, Apple, Lenovo, Nintendo, and Samsung, the company maintained its position as a leading supplier of power amplifiers and RF front-end modules to the Wi-Fi market, and positioned itself to be the leading supplier of 802.11n front-end solutions. The company also captured a significant share of the market supplying GPS radios to personal navigation devices.

Highlights for the year included:

  •  The appointments of Sohail Khan as CEO, Peter Gammel as CTO and Vice President of Engineering, and Fred Shlapak as Chairman of the Board.
  •  An expansion round of financing totalling US $20 million raised by both existing and new investors including Samsung Ventures.
  •  Recognition by Deloitte and Touche as one of the fastest growing technology companies in North America, ranked 47th in the Fast 500, 14th in the Wireless Fast 50, and 5th in the Fast 50 program for New England.
  •  Shipment of more than 84 million components - an increase year-over- year of more than 30 percent - bringing the total to more than 250 million solutions shipped;
  •  Increased presence in the Asia Pacific region including an expanded sales, application and development team in Hong Kong and Taiwan.
  •  The addition of new channel partners for SiGe's Wi-Fi front-end solutions, providing the company with access to every major laptop manufacturer.
  •  New industry-first solutions:
  •  The world's most integrated RF front-end module for 802.11n products, allowing consumer electronics to support wireless multimedia services while enhancing cost, size and performance;
  •  A Wi-Fi power amplifier that reduces system cost, boosts power efficiency and optimizes performance for the end user;
  •  Wi-Fi building blocks that simplify design and reduce system bill of materials cost by 30 percent when adding Wi-Fi capability to consumer devices; and
  •  The world's smallest GPS receivers, allowing navigation capability in portable consumer electronics.

During the next 12 to 18 months, SiGe Semiconductor will extend its portfolio with solutions designed to enable convergence and co-existence of multiple technology standards including Wi-Fi, WiMAX, Bluetooth, GPS and cellular. The company will deliver a series of WiMAX front-end modules that solve the efficiency challenge, allowing manufacturers to effectively integrate WiMAX capability into mobile devices without compromising battery life, performance, size or cost.

"In 2008, we see 802.11n as a major opportunity. Driven by consumer demand for higher bandwidth multimedia services, the computing market will transition from b/g to 'n'. We are positioned as the leading supplier of 802.11n RF front-end solutions, and with our technology have won significant designs that will enable some of the industry's first 802.11n Wi-Fi products to hit store shelves. In addition, SiGe is developing technology that will enable the convergence of Wi-Fi and WiMAX, a key trend that we expect to surface over the next 18 months," said Sohail Khan, chief executive officer, SiGe Semiconductor.
