Innaworks Announces Automated Java To BREW Porting Solution Specifically Targeted For Mobile Applications 03/31/08 - Innaworks announced version 2.1 of alcheMo for BREW, the automated Java Platform, Micro Edition (Java ME) to BREW porting solution. This new version of alcheMo is the world's first product in the category that specifically targets the unique needs of the mobile application industry. alcheMo for BREW version 2.1 is capable of instantly porting a broad range of standard Java ME mobile applications to BREW. alcheMo for BREW version 2.1 introduces support for the HTTP/HTTPS and File Connection APIs (JSR-75). In addition, alcheMo for BREW version 2.1 includes pre-production support for sockets and TCP, Location Based Services (JSR-179) and Personal Information Services (JSR-75). Innaworks will demonstrate its products at booth 1557 at the CTIA Conference, to be held 1-3 April in Las Vegas. The mobile game and the mobile application markets both face the same relentless pressure that pervades the fast-paced mobile industry. However, the two markets have distinctly different needs and requirements. "Unlike mobile games, mobile applications have a long shelf life. Mobile applications are typically extended and maintained throughout the product lifetime," said Stephen Cheng, CEO of Innaworks. "Total lifecycle cost, time to market and extensibility are critical for their long time success. alcheMo perfectly matches these requirements and provides a unique solution." With alcheMo, mobile application developers can target multiple mobile platforms, including Java ME and BREW, using a single code base. Innaworks is also currently extending alcheMo to support the Apple® iPhone platform. By virtue of the single code base, alcheMo customers can minimize their products' life-cycle costs by the elimination of manual cross-platform porting; unified functional testing across Java and BREW; reduced customer support costs; and simplified project management. Consolidation into a single maintainable code base helps alcheMo's customers to bring their applications to market months ahead of the competition. The single code base advantage enables alcheMo customers to out-manoeuvre their competitors through rapid product feature rollouts across multiple platforms over the application's lifetime. alcheMo for BREW is trusted by Tier 1 mobile application developers, and today powers many demanding applications including mobile banking and health management. alcheMo for BREW is also the market leader in the mobile game industry, counting Vivendi, Hands-On, Superscape and I-Play amongst its customers. "We found alcheMo to be a great solution for quickly porting to BREW our J2ME application t+ diabetes, a mobile phone based health management system," said Greg Billington, Technical Director, t+ Medical. "As well as reducing the project timeline, alcheMo produced a BREW application that looks and operates like the original and can easily stay in sync with the original Java code base. alcheMo shrank the porting process from months to days, and was easy for existing engineers to use without retraining in BREW." Innaworks is one of the few companies which operates a mobile base station emulator. This specialised equipment enables Innaworks to emulate CDMA and EVDO cellular networks to provide our customers with world-class support. alcheMo for BREW incorporates a patent-pending optimizing translator to convert Java ME application source code to equivalent C++ application source code for BREW. Compiled using a standard BREW tool-chain and linked with alcheMo's optimized run-time library, alcheMo produces a native BREW application. alcheMo for BREW version 2.1 is capable of converting Java ME applications utilizing an extensive subset of Java ME CLDC 1.1 and MIDP 2.0, and supports several JSR extension APIs. Advanced Java language features such as Java-style exception handling, multithreading, synchronization, interfaces, and inner classes are fully supported. alcheMo's run-time library incorporates a garbage collector for automatic memory management. alcheMo is fully automated and its output requires no further manual adjustment.
