Fujitsu Shows Off the Latest WiMAX Fixed and Mobile Device Technologies at Annual WiMAX World in Chicago

9/26/07 - Fujitsu Microelectronics America, Inc. (FMA) will feature its newest mobile and fixed WiMAX device technologies at the annual WiMAX World Conference September 25-27 at McCormick Place in Chicago.

In booth 305, Fujitsu will highlight its MB87K21 802.16e-2005 mobile WiMAX SoC, a single-chip MAC and PHY mixed-signal device optimized for use in mobile stations, mobile terminals and PC cards. A MIMO-based wireless demonstration operating in the real world environment will show how MPEG2 HL video clips stored in the video server are sent as a multimedia stream via base station equipment to the mobile station containing the Fujitsu MB86K21 baseband mobile WiMAX SoC. Fujitsu has achieved a 40Mbps throughput at the SoC level, which is close to the theoretical maximum value.

Fujitsu will also feature its 802.16-2004 fixed WiMAX SoC, the MB87M3550, used in the 5.8GHz CPE and 3.5GHz CPE developed by Sun Create Electronics Co., Ltd., which are compliant with the IEEE802.16-2004 specification. The Fujitsu MB87M3550 features a high-performance MAC capable of running up to 10Mbps using a 3.5MHz channel bandwidth. With a 7MHz channel bandwidth, the MB87M3550 can deliver a stable data rate up to 17.5Mbps.

"Fujitsu continues to make significant advances in mobile WiMAX SoC technology by achieving Wave 2 -- level functionality," said Keith Horn, chief operating officer, Fujitsu Microelectronics America. "We have made steady progress from our proof-of-concept design based on an FPGA architecture to a complete SoC solution. We're completing more testing in preparation for the October 14 Taipei Plugfest and for the Wave 2 certification event scheduled for early 2008."
