Intermec Works with Microsoft to Manage and Communicate to RFID Devices on the Microsoft Windows Platform

09/13/07 - Intermec announces that its line of Radio Frequency Device (RFID) hardware devices will be supported by Microsoft Corp.'s BizTalk Server 2006 R2. BizTalk Server 2006 R2 enables customers of all sizes to connect core business processes across applications, platforms and partners. Combined with Intermec passive UHF RFID systems, BizTalk Server 2006 R2 gives customers a uniform way to communicate with and manage RFID devices on the Microsoft Windows platform.

BizTalk Server 2006 R2, in conjunction with Intermec RFID Hardware solutions will help businesses of all sizes gain significant benefits through the adoption of RFID technology. Since BizTalk Server 2006 R2 is built on the Microsoft .NET Framework architecture, developers are able to build and develop RFID applications using many of Microsoft's tools including Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft Visual Studio, and Microsoft Dynamics. In addition to compatibility with Microsoft applications and tools, BizTalk Server 2006 R2 is also designed to work well with third party line of business applications such as Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) and specialized vertical software - all without the need for costly integration pieces.

"The combination of Intermec RFID technologies and Microsoft BizTalk Server 2006 R2 capabilities will simplify the adoption of RFID for enterprise customers," said Steven Martin, Director of the Connected Systems Division at Microsoft.

With Intermec RFID systems and the pre-integrated .NET Framework technologies in Microsoft BizTalk Server 2006 R2, businesses can achieve "real-world" service-oriented architecture (SOA) to connect applications, platforms and people. This kind of connection improves understanding of customer needs while streamlining business processes.

Intermec, a Microsoft Direct OEM and Gold Certified Partner, has worked closely with Microsoft to tightly integrate offerings with Microsoft's BizTalk Sever 2006 R2. In addition, Intermec has been an active participant in the Microsoft RFID Partner Advisory Council (PAC) and was a participant in the Microsoft BizTalk Server 2006 R2 Technology Adoption Program (TAP) for its work with the Blue C Sushi project.
