  • In-Stat/MDR Reports the Momentum of 802.11 to Salvage Fixed Wireless Market
  • The recent migration of 802.11 as an operating standard into the license-exempt fixed wireless broadband market in the United States will result in a much needed, and unexpected, growth spurt for the stagnant broadband fixed wireless market, according to In-Stat/MDR. The high-tech market research firm expects that, as fixed wireless ISPs continue to flood the licensed- exempt band, fixed wireless will eventually become a significant player in the broadband access technology space. In 2002 alone, the licensed-exempt service for fixed wireless in the United States will grow three-fold, and by 2006 over two thirds of all wireless broadband subscriptions will be on a licensed-exempt system.

  • Cambridge Broadband Reaches 27 KM with 15 Mbps Broadband Wireless Connection in 3.5 GHz Band
  • Broadband subscribers can now be reached at distances of up to 27km from a base station, using Cambridge Broadband's 3.5GHz VectaStar 3500 fixed wireless access system. In a recent series of long-distance performance trials, the VectaStar system delivered net user data rates of 15 megabits per second both downstream and upstream, enough for several carrier-class E1 or T1 links. These results underline VectaStar's position as the leading broadband wireless system on the market and signify a dramatic reduction for network operators in the costs of rolling out high-speed broadband networks over large geographical areas, including rural and semi rural regions.

  • Alvarion Announces the CX Cell Extender for its Industry-leading BreezeACCESS Family of Wireless Broadband Solutions
  • Alvarion, Inc., a leading provider of Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) solutions, announced the commercial launch of its Cell Extender (CX) for the BreezeACCESS product line. The CX is designed to receive and re- distribute broadband coverage from a primary wireless base station to connect subscribers who are beyond the range of the primary cell, or who were previously unreachable from the primary station due to obstructions such as foliage or hills. This eliminates the need to deploy new backhauls and base stations to connect pockets of otherwise inaccessible customers, significantly improving the economics for wireless broadband deployments.
