Clearwire Appoints Joseph P. Kennedy to Fill Board
of Directors Seat; Newest Member Guided Citizens
Energy Corporation to Prominence

DALLAS, Dec. 17, 2001 - Clearwire Technologies has appointed former U.S. Congressman Joseph P. Kennedy II to fill a vacancy on its board of directors. Kennedy grew Citizens Energy Corporation to encompass seven separate companies, including the largest energy conservation firm in the United States. Kennedy brings that entrepreneurial spirit and experience to Clearwire.

"Each member of Clearwire's Board of Directors is a leader in his respective field," said James Mansour, CEO and Chairman of the Board of Clearwire Holdings Inc. "Combined, they provide Clearwire with expertise in critical areas such as finance, business, telecommunications and wireless, enabling us to make intelligent decisions that have a positive impact on the success of the company."

In 1998, after 12 years on Capitol Hill, Kennedy returned as chairman and president of Citizens Energy Corporation, a non-profit company he founded in 1979 to provide low-cost heating oil to the poor and elderly. Kennedy also currently serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Sonic Telecom, an international digital communications provider.

Kennedy joins a board that includes the following individuals:

-- David Berkman, a managing partner of the Associated Group L.L.C. Berkman was director and Executive Vice President of Associated Group when it founded Teligent Inc., a provider of broadband communications services. Berkman serves on the board of directors for V-SPAN, TruePosition Inc., and Entercom Inc., the fourth-largest radio broadcaster in the United States. He is also on the boards of Internet Capital Group (ICG) and Safeguard Securities Inc.
-- Gerry Cardinale, Vice President of Goldman Sachs' Principal Investment Area, and current board member of Fiberlink and V-SPAN, a video conferencing service provider. He was previously vice president of Goldman Sachs' Communication, Media and Entertainment Group, Investment Banking Division.
-- Leo Cyr, who is also President and COO of Clearwire. Cyr spent 13 years with MCI WorldCom before joining CapRock Communications as President and COO. At CapRock, Cyr successfully raised $100 million in public equity prior to the company's acquisition by McLeodUSA.
-- Jack Daly, a member of the Principal Investment Area of Goldman Sachs, and previously an investment banker for Goldman Sachs' Communication, Media and Entertainment Group. Daly was senior instructor of mechanical and aerospace engineering at Case Western Reserve University.
-- James F. Gero, chairman and principal shareholder of Sierra Network and Sierra Technologies Inc., a technology company from which Clearwire was spun off during 1998. He is former chairman and CEO of Varo Inc., a manufacturer of electronic and optical products. Gero is a board member of Thayer Aerospace, Drew Industries Inc., and Orthofix International NV.
-- Rob Gheewalla, Managing Director of Goldman Sachs' Principal Investment Area, who is also on the boards of GT Group Telecom, Accessline, Aleron, Diveo, Interrelate, New Edge Networks and North American Railnet.
-- Jimmy Mansour, Clearwire chairman and CEO. Mansour co-founded National Telecommunications of Florida, a company he built into the 17th-largest long-distance carrier in the U.S. Mansour was also co-founder of National Telecommunications of Texas, a company he sold in 1991 to LDDS WorldCom Inc., the predecessor to MCI WorldCom. Mansour is former CEO and current board member and Chairman of the Executive Committee of GT Group Telecom. In addition, he is a board member of Tipping Point technologies, Grande Communications and ATX Technologies.
