"We are very excited to be granted this license so we can begin showcasing the capabilities of our products and technologies to the world," said Bob Kelsch, BeamReach CEO. "Trials will clearly demonstrate the performance of our system in delivering concurrently the largest coverage and the highest spectral efficiency both in supercell and in multi-cell environments. These capabilities are key to the economical and wide-scale deployment of broadband wireless access services. By demonstrating our system's viability in the WCS band, which is a very narrow spectrum band, we will show operators around the world how they can minimize their investments in spectrum and build the most capital-efficient broadband access networks possible."
The outlook for the broadband wireless access market remains very strong and analysts believe the coming new generation of technologies offering high link budget, high spectral efficiency, and ease of installation for customers will be the key to the widespread use of wireless for broadband access. BeamReach, while targeting all frequencies below 6 GHz, including MMDS/ITFS and 3.5 GHz, will begin demonstrating the capabilities of its system in the WCS band, one of the most challenging, in order to prove the viability of the technology in every band.
"The decision by BeamReach to produce a WCS product seems particularly wise given the applicability of BeamReach's technology to narrow spectrum blocks and its ability to scale," commented Peter Jarich, senior analyst at Strategis Group. "Equipment vendors, who enable service providers to offer service more cost-effectively, even with limited bandwidth, are well-positioned to take advantage of the strong growth projected for the broadband wireless access market. We predict the global market for equipment will reach $2.8 billion by 2004 within a total market of $6.1 billion in global service revenues."
"We believe our technology has the ability to jumpstart the industry," continued Kelsch. "It gives operators what they want, namely non-line-of-sight, consumer-installable CPE, high data rates, and the ability to deploy large cells, serving a large number of customers with fewer base stations."
The BeamReach technology, Adaptive MultiBeam OFDM, is a unique combination of adaptive beamforming, spectral and spatial diversity, and interference cancelation that delivers both a very high link budget and an order of magnitude improvement in spectral efficiency.
