AT&T Fixed Wireless Executive To Give 
WCA 8th Technical Symposium Keynote

    WASHINGTON, Sept. 19, 2001 - The broadband wireless industry's premier annual technical conference will be opened on Jan. 14 in San Jose, CA by a top AT&T Fixed Wireless technologist, the Wireless Communications Association (WCA) announced today.

    Dr. John Saw, Vice President and Chief Engineer of AT&T Fixed Wireless Services, is among the leaders of the industry who will summarize progress in Next Generation broadband deployments for top technologists attending from around the world.

    Dr. Saw has more than 15 years experience in the wireless field, having worked on a number of cellular, microwave and fixed wireless radio developments. He is presently responsible for product development, systems engineering, and systems verification at AT&T Fixed Wireless, a leader in bringing broadband wireless services to the public.

    WCA's annual event gathers the world's elite technologists in broadband wireless development and deployment, including frequency bands from below 2 GHz to beyond 100 GHz and into the Free Space Optical and other ultra-high capacity ranges. Services include residential, business and educational applications that benefit from high speed and high capacity.

    The technology permits prompt, cost-effective deployments for broadband Internet access. This year's Symposium had record attendance as industry leaders charted the technical dimensions of major rollouts for the broadband wireless industry, drawing 1,150 registrants -- a nearly 500% increase from the previous year's record of 235.

    About Dr. John Saw
   
John Saw is Vice President and Chief Engineer of AT&T Fixed Wireless Services, a business unit of AT&T Wireless (NYSE:AWE). Dr. Saw leads the engineering team, and is responsible for product development, systems engineering, and systems verification of the AT&T Fixed Wireless platform.
    Since joining AT&T Fixed Wireless in 1997, he has served in leadership roles in both early product development as well as in the operational rollout of fixed wireless product. Previously, Dr. Saw spent nine years at Nortel's Wireless Networks Division, where he was involved in the development of cellular infrastructure and microwave radio products.

    In his last year with the company, he served as Senior Manager of RF Technology Development and was awarded the Nortel Wireless President's Award for Innovation. Dr. Saw earned a Ph.D in electrical engineering in 1988, an M.Eng in electrical engineering in 1986 and a B.Eng (summa cum laude) in electrical engineering in 1985, all from McMaster University, Ontario, Canada.

    He holds five U.S. patents and has published more than fifteen technical papers in the Journal of Applied Physics, IEEE Transactions on Ultrasonics, Ferroelectrics and Frequency Control, IEEE MTT Symposium Digest and IEE Electronic Letters.
