XtremeSpectrum Expects FCC To Rule on Ultra-Wideband
Within 60 Days; FCC Chairman Michael Powell Commits
to Ultra-wideband for February 14, 2002 Meeting Agenda

VIENNA, Va., Dec. 12, 2001 - XtremeSpectrum Inc., a privately held company dedicated to bringing ultra-wideband products to the wireless industry, today announced that it expects the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to issue a Report and Order permitting the commercial use of ultra-wideband technology within the next 60 days, lauding the Commission's commitment to this new wireless technology. After tentatively scheduling the matter for a vote at the FCC meeting held today in Washington DC, the FCC deferred action for 60 days at the request of Secretary of Commerce Donald Evans to allow additional time for coordination with the Federal Government. Based on statements FCC Chairman Michael Powell made today, ultra-wideband will be put on the agenda for the February 14, 2002 meeting, signaling the Commission's intention to place a high priority on the issue of ultra-wideband technology.

"We appreciate the continuing commitment of FCC Chairman Michael Powell and Secretary of Commerce Donald Evans to this rulemaking, their willingness to devote the resources necessary to complete the proceeding within that time frame, as well as their recognition of the benefits ultra-wideband will provide for consumers and the US economy," said XtremeSpectrum President and CEO Dr. Martin Rofheart. "Since the initial Notice of Proposed Rulemaking was issued in May 2000, we have worked closely with the FCC and Department of Commerce. We are pleased that the Commission views ultra-wideband rules as a priority, and we look forward to moving ultra-wideband technology into the commercial sector."

Over the past three years, XtremeSpectrum has worked closely with the NTIA/Department of Commerce and the FCC to both protect existing spectrum users and to allow for the deployment of this new wireless technology. On November 29, 2001, XtremeSpectrum filed a compromise proposal with the FCC that fully resolves all interference concerns raised by the involved parties while simultaneously allowing the ultra-wideband industry as a whole to commercially deploy products. XtremeSpectrum has been joined by leading consumer electronics, semiconductor and communication equipment companies, such as Intel, Sony Electronics, Texas Instruments and Siemens, in filing letters of advocacy for ultra-wideband with the FCC. Indeed, interested parties have filed almost 800 documents with the FCC during its three-year review.

    About XtremeSpectrum's Ultra-wideband Technology
Ultra-wideband is a wireless technology that transmits an extremely low power signal over a wide swath of radio spectrum. Unlike conventional radio systems that operate within a relatively narrow bandwidth, i.e. Bluetooth, IEEE 802.11b, IEEE 802.11a, ultra-wideband operates across a wide range of frequency spectrum by transmitting a series of very narrow and low power pulses. The combination of broader spectrum, lower power and pulsed data means that ultra-wideband causes less interference than conventional narrowband radio solutions, and delivers wire-like performance in an indoor wireless environment. This makes ultra-wideband technology ideal for consumer electronics applications such as camcorders, laptops, DVDs, digital cameras, etc.

    About XtremeSpectrum
