TaylorCNET Awards Motorola Professional Broadband
Wireless Services With a Contract to Bring High-Speed
Internet Access to its Community

TAYLOR, Texas, Nov. 25, 2002 - Taylor Texas Community Network (TaylorCNET), whose purpose is to provide efficient educational and workforce training programs for the community of Taylor, Texas, has awarded Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) with a contract to build a wireless broadband telecommunications grid which will provide high speed internet connectivity throughout the community.

Taylor, Texas is a small diverse community of approximately 14,000 people just twenty miles north of Austin. While many of its citizens commute daily to work in high tech sectors in Round Rock and Austin, many lack the Internet access in their home area to benefit from the educational and workforce training programs made available to the local residents.

TaylorCNET was tasked to establish multiple public access points throughout the community to provide computer and Internet access to those who would not otherwise have it. The challenge for the organization was to find the appropriate technology partner to solve connectivity issues efficiently and effectively.

To address TaylorCNET requirements, Motorola Professional Services analyzed the needs and the requirements associated and designed and proposed the use of a wireless grid solution using "Canopy(TM) technology", a Motorola- developed broadband wireless platform with built in scalability and a unique modulation scheme enabling a high degree of interference immunity. The grid will enable the distribution of broadband access from a single point of Internet presence provided by TaylorCNET. This will be done efficiently and cost effectively. It will connect local government, public entities, non- profit organizations, businesses and homes.

"I had always heard it said that if you gather a group of five technology specialists in one room with one problem, you will get five different solutions," commented Debbie Kiewit, of Summa Associates, project managers for TaylorCNET. "That was not the case here. After reviewing twelve proposals and listening to five vendor presentations, the choice was clear. It took our Technology Committee, comprising five specialists, less than thirty minutes to make a recommendation. Motorola Professional Services' solution was clearly the way to go. Taylor is excited about seeing the implementation of an exciting solution."

"Motorola Professional Services is proud to fulfill the Wireless Internet needs for the community of Taylor and to be an integral part of TaylorCNET's initiative. One of our key areas of expertise is the design and integration of wireless solutions that can enable our customers to obtain a concrete return on their investments," commented Len DeBarros, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Motorola Professional Services Americas Region. "Additionally, we selected the Canopy system as the wireless last mile access transport technology due to its cost-effectiveness, ease of deployment and flexibility to meet the current and future needs of the community of Taylor."

    About TaylorCNET
TaylorCNET (Taylor Texas Community Network) is a collaborative partnership between the City, School District, Economic Development Corporation, County, Hospital, Junior College, Housing Authority and Chamber, whose purpose is to reach the less privileged population of that community. This collaborative is currently working under the generous funding of TIF (Telecommunications Infrastructure Fund Board), which awarded Taylor a $525,000 grant with which to plan and build a community network. The progress in telecommunications being realized by rural communities in Texas due to the assistance provided by TIF is immeasurable.
