ioWave Inc. Selects Wavesat as Its
Supplier of
Broadband Wireless OFDM Modem Technology
MONTREAL, June 24, 2002 - Wavesat
Wireless Inc., a developer and manufacturer of OFDM Broadband Wireless Access
("BWA") modems and Microwave Network products, today announced that
ioWave Inc., of Arlington, Virginia, has selected Wavesat as its supplier of
OFDM modem technology.
ioWave Inc. specializes in the design, distribution and
support of high-speed, point-to-point, and point-to-multipoint wireless
platforms. ioWave's products are used for the transmission and reception of
voice, video, and data over broadband communications networks.
"The selection process involved a comprehensive
review and rigorous testing of several modem technologies, with a particular
focus on the need to achieve breakthrough performance levels to meet market
demand," said Dan Saginario, ioWave's President and CEO. Dan continued,
"Test results confirm that when Wavesat's Non Line-of-Sight (NLOS) modems
are integrated into ioWave's ioUltima Smart Antenna system, the combined results
exceed the spectral efficiency and market coverage expectations of the
individual products as well as all known alternatives."
"The Wavesat OFDM modem, when integrated with
ioWave's traditional wireless products and its newly acquired Hybrid
Point-to-Multipoint Fixed Wireless Local Loop system as enhanced by ioWave's
Smart Antenna technology, will result in a `best in class' product offering in
the global wireless systems industry," commented Michel Guay, President and
CEO of Wavesat.
Wavesat has developed an innovative Orthogonal Frequency
Division Multiplexing (OFDM) modem using patented technology to serve as a
"last mile" wireless solution for broadband internet and voice access.
The company's modem will be the key enabler for second-generation fixed wireless
systems.
The result of this technology is an OFDM modem that is
significantly more efficient and less expensive, while offering superior Non
Line-of-Sight (NLOS) performance for next generation BWA systems. To date,
Wavesat, is the first company to have shown field results on OFDM to the IEEE
802.16 Committee.
