interWAVE Partners With YDI to Accelerate Broadband Technology Innovation in North America
MENLO PARK, Calif., June 13, 2002--interWAVE Communications (NASDAQ: IWAV - News), a pioneer in compact cellular communications systems and broadband wireless data networks, today announced that its has signed two Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) agreements with Young Design, Inc. (YDI), a provider of extended range solutions utilizing 802.11b wireless Local Area Network (LAN) technology. The agreements, effective immediately, finalize the sale of certain interWAVE broadband product line assets and the intellectual property rights associated with those product lines.
"The dispersion of a number of our broadband products to YDI enables us to sharpen our GSM and 3G strategic product focus," said Dr. Priscilla Lu, chairman and CEO of interWAVE. "As a result of these agreements, both interWAVE and YDI will be able to more effectively concentrate on their specific market strengths, providing customers with the best, most compact voice and data solution available today."
Under the agreements, interWAVE's subsidiary, Wireless Inc., sold the rights to a number of its point-to-point and point-to-multipoint broadband products, including the respective intellectual property rights for each product. interWAVE will continue to include YDI's newly-acquired broadband products as part of interWAVE's turnkey GSM network solution. In addition, YDI is licensed to sell interWAVE's WaveNet Link 4X solution--a medium-capacity, point-to-point, broadband radio--and will begin to distribute interWAVE's WaveNet Link CX solution--an industry first, high-capacity, all outdoor, point-to-point, broadband radio--throughout its North American sales channel.

YDI acquired the following interWAVE products: WaveNet Link EX, WaveNet Link AX, RAN 64/25, 400 & 900 MHz, RAN 128/50, 400 & 900 MHz, RAN 9/19, 400 & 900 MHz, WaveNet Access 1000 and WaveNet Access 2500.
