Fixed Wireless Vendors Continue to Push Ahead,
Despite Decline in Overall Sales
BOSTON,
July 30, 2002 - The fixed wireless industry, much like other
telecommunications sectors, has suffered over the past year and a half from poor
carrier business plans, excessive build-out strategies, slower than expected
technology advancements, and the overall effects of the economic downturn. In
the recent Yankee Group Broadband Access Technologies Report, "Fixed Wireless:
Pulling Opportunity Out of Thin Air," the research firm selects two public and
two private companies with products in varying sectors of the fixed wireless
industry, and assesses how they maintain a steady path to success despite the
decline of overall fixed wireless sales.
According to Yankee Group analyst Lindsay Schroth,
"The flux in the fixed wireless market has actually compelled vendors and
carriers alike to rethink both product and service deployment strategies. The
surviving vendors are those that have aligned their product and marketing
initiatives with the growing demand for a solution that allows for a
pay-as-you-grow model and a clear path to positive ROI."
Although four vendors are profiled in the Report, a number of
other fixed wireless players are also maintaining a place in the
market, and this Report recommends to the investment community methods
for determining the viability of fixed wireless vendors across the
board.
