Worldwide 802.11 Broadband Wireless LAN Market Forecasted to Exceed $3 B by 2006 According to Dell'Oro Group 5 Year Forecast

REDWOOD CITY, Calif., July 31, 2002 - According to Dell'Oro Group, the Wireless LAN -802.11 market (including 802.11a, 802.11b and Multimode products) is forecasted to grow from $1.2 B in 2001 to $3.1 B in 2006. SOHO infrastructure products are expected to comprise the largest portion of the revenue mix, versus Enterprise infrastructure products and NICs.

Wireless LAN (WLAN) has become the network of choice for the home. As a result of very aggressive price declines and a compelling application (sharing a broadband connection in the home), continued strong growth is expected for this market. Dell'Oro forecasts Y/Y revenue growth of approximately 40% from 2003 to 2006 for the SOHO infrastructure segment.

"We expect that the Enterprise segment of the WLAN market will strengthen once we have secure, interoperable, backward-compatible products, and once multimode becomes available at a relatively small price premium over previous generation products", said Seamus Crehan, a Senior Analyst at Dell'Oro Group.
