Calif., July 31, 2002 - According to Dell'Oro Group, the Wireless LAN
-802.11 market (including 802.11a, 802.11b and Multimode products) is forecasted
to grow from $1.2 B in 2001 to $3.1 B in 2006. SOHO infrastructure products are
expected to comprise the largest portion of the revenue mix, versus Enterprise
infrastructure products and NICs.
Wireless LAN
(WLAN) has become the network of choice for the home. As a result of very
aggressive price declines and a compelling application (sharing a broadband
connection in the home), continued strong growth is expected for this market.
Dell'Oro forecasts Y/Y revenue growth of approximately 40% from 2003 to 2006 for
the SOHO infrastructure segment.
"We expect
that the Enterprise segment of the WLAN market will strengthen once we have
secure, interoperable, backward-compatible products, and once multimode becomes
available at a relatively small price premium over previous generation
products", said Seamus Crehan, a Senior Analyst at Dell'Oro Group.
