Fixed Broadband Wireless Delivers
High-Speed Fiji, December, 2, 2002 - Telecom Fiji have
announced that 37 island resorts throughout Fiji are to receive high-speed
Internet and data access from late 2002 with the integration into Telecom Fiji's
network of further Aprisa(tm) microwave radios from 4RF Communications. The Fijian economy is heavily reliant upon tourism. The
provision of reliable Internet and data access in the more than US$1 million
deal is pivotal to developing international tourism and supporting the locally
based tourism infrastructure. Many of the resorts lie between 10 and 75 kilometers
offshore. Fixed broadband wireless provides a high performing, cost effective
(and simply integrated) solution in a challenging island environment with
pathways reaching across expanses of water. The resorts use online
reservation systems and need reliable, high-speed communications to assist the
management of staffing, provisions and fuel resources sourced from their
mainland-based offices. The New Zealand-built Aprisa radio links will also
create a virtual private network back to the mainland and will provide each
resort with between 6 and 20 voice circuits. Sakeasi Seru, General Manager Network & Technology for
Telecom Fiji, says the deployment of the Aprisa radios is complimentary to
Telecom Fiji's satellite service. He says their next step will be the expansion
Telecom Fiji's network penetration to provide Internet access to rural schools,
hospitals and government agencies using 4RF's microwave wireless technology. About 4RF Communications # # # Contact: Sakeasi Seru |
