Linksys Broadband Wireless Router Is PC
Magazine.com Online Survey Shows Linksys Wireless Router IRVINE, Calif., Nov. 26,
2002 - One of the "hot tech gifts" of the
2003 holiday season is the Linksys wireless router model number BEFW11S4,
bundled with Symantec's award-winning Norton Internet Security software suite,
according to a recent PC Magazine.com online survey.
The survey conducted showed more than 91 percent of respondents with
multiple PCs in the home believe it is important to have parental and privacy
controls on their home network to protect their kids from offensive Web and
e-mail content and other Internet dangers. Seventy-six percent of respondents
said the Linksys wireless router with Symantec's Norton Internet Security
software would offer a compelling solution for the family this holiday season.
"By combining the most popular wireless router on the market with
comprehensive security software, Linksys and Symantec can offer families a
high level of protection on the Internet," said Michael Wagner, director of
marketing at Linksys. "The survey results demonstrate that the issue of
computer security for the home is top-of-mind this holiday season."
Currently available at all major retail and e-commerce stores and through
direct response partners nationwide, the Linksys wireless router, which was
awarded the PC World Magazine 2002 hardware product of the year, is now being
bundled with Symantec's Norton Internet Security 2003 software suite, PC
Magazine Editors' Choice (November 19, 2002) for best security software. The
combined hardware and software provides complete wireless broadband Internet
access for multiple users with a comprehensive home network security package.
The Linksys BEFW11S4 wireless router is both a wired and wireless router
that enables multiple users to access a single cable or DSL connection as well
as share files, printers, games and other devices on the network. The Norton
software package has a number of security components for parental control,
privacy, and protection against worms and viruses. Symantec's software also
provides robust firewall and intrusion detection to protect networked
computers against hacker attacks and personal data theft. It further blocks
users from receiving unwanted adult-oriented material and other annoying
e-mail spam.
The Linksys Wireless Router has just surpassed one-million units sold in
less than 18 months and has surpassed monthly sales of its wired 4-port
cousin- Linksys EtherFast 4-Port Router BEFSR41. Linksys is currently the
nationwide leader within the U.S. wireless router retail arena with a
60-percent year to date market share, according to market tracking firm NPD
Techworld. The network equipment provider is also the worldwide business
leader in wireless router sales, as indicated by market research group
In-Stat/MDR, with a 22 percent overall portion of unit sales through the first
half of 2002.
Pricing and Availability Linksys router customers will receive a 60-day subscription service from
Symantec that will deliver regular updates for virus definitions, firewall
rules and the intrusion detection signatures. Annual subscription service is
available for subsequent updates.
