New Version of Funk Software's Steel-Belted Radius
Port Allocation System Enables Carriers To
Guarantee a Fixed Number of Ports to Each Customer

Enhancements Meet the Requirements of Large ISPs, Maximize ROI

Funk Software, developer of the market-leading Steel-Belted Radius family of RADIUS/AAA servers, today announced an upgrade to the Steel-Belted Radius Port Allocation System (PAS) that enables carriers to guarantee access to a fixed number of ports to their service provider customers, while still maximizing the usage of all their ports.

PAS is an add-on module to Steel-Belted Radius/Service Provider Edition, Funk Software's high-capacity, high-reliability RADIUS/AAA solution for wholesale, outsource, wireless, broadband, and roaming service providers. PAS enables carriers to allocate, track, and manage port usage and availability across all their service provider customers to maximize profitability and ensure adherence to SLAs.

"Wholesalers need to be able to guarantee access to a certain number of ports to each of their service provider customers - regardless of whatever else is happening on the network," said Joe Ryan, vice president of Funk Software. "Not only does the new version of PAS satisfy this requirement, but it also enables carriers to maximize their ROI through efficient allocation of ports, allowing them to structure and price port access optimally for their business model."

The enhanced port allocation features of PAS 4.0 enable carriers to:

-- Reserve a specific number of connections for each customer, ensuring access to those connections 24 hours a day regardless of the volume of authentication requests received from otherISPs.
-- Accommodate overflow traffic by making extra ports available on a first-come-first-served basis, utilizing a hard limit set with each customer.
-- Build creative pricing plans combining reserved ports with overflow usage, such as selling 8,000 guaranteed ports in Chicago at one price and an additional 2,000 contingency ports at a lower price when they are used.
-- Maximize revenues by reducing the number of ports sitting idle, through the efficient structuring of guaranteed vs. non-guaranteed resource allocation.

PAS v4.0 also includes an enhanced reporting package designed to support the system's new port allocation capabilities. The new reports:

-- Display network activity by ISP and/or network region, enabling carriers to analyze customer traffic at a highly
granular level for planning purposes.

-- Aid SLA documentation by making it possible to demonstrate customer usage of both reserved and contingency ports.

    Pricing and Specifications
Steel-Belted Radius Port Allocation System v4.0 is available immediately on the NT/2000 and Solaris platforms, and is priced starting at $5.00/port managed. Both Steel-Belted Radius/Service Provider Edition and Port Allocation System are available directly from Funk Software; outside the U.S. and Canada, they are available from Funk Software's worldwide network of authorized partners.
