DragonWave Makes Airpair
Internet Broadband Release 2 Enhanced With In-Band Management and PDA Installation
Tool
DragonWave Inc., a premier
supplier of next-generation wireless networks, today announced
enhancements to its AirPair Ethernet radios that make the
solution simpler to deploy and maintain. AirPair Release 2 can be
remotely managed across Internet Protocol (IP) networks or from a
network operations center (NOC) thanks to the new in-band
management functionality. Coupled with this enhanced management
functionality, new PDA based installation tools reduce
installation time, complexity and cost. DragonWave’s AirPair
radios enable service providers, enterprises and governments to
rapidly introduce reliable broadband services where fiber-optic
or copper-line connectivity is either unavailable or impractical.
"Organizations desperately need to gain control over spiraling
operational costs, so DragonWave is wise to enhance ease of
installation and use in Release 2 of its AirPair Ethernet
radios," said Deb Mielke, Principal with Treillage Network
Strategies, Inc. "The ability to deploy, manage and maintain a
wireless network with keystrokes instead of truck rolls through
in-band management, for example, is something that both service
providers and enterprises will find very appealing."
AirPair Release 2 radios are easily and securely monitored and
managed from any point in the user’s IP network from any platform
based on the popular Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP). A
network operation can remotely manage all aspects of near and
far-end radios in any network link. This improves service
deployment, reduces costs, improves response times and increases
overall revenues. AirPair Release 2 in-band management
functionality also enables AirPair operating software and
upgrades to be uploaded remotely and redundantly.
AirPair Release 2 additionally includes an innovative tool that
enables network personnel to configure, calibrate and align
AirPair radios via any standard PDA. Traditionally, technicians
have had to tote bulky RF test equipment or laptop computers on
top of buildings where the radios are installed. During
installation, tests can be performed on the handheld PDAs to
ensure that AirPair radios are configured to deliver optimal
network-performance levels.
"AirPair set a new standard in the point-to-point wireless
industry with its combination of reliability, performance and
affordability, and now we have made AirPair more user-friendly,"
said Erik Boch, Chief Technology officer of DragonWave. "This is
of key benefit for both our enterprise and carrier customers, who
recognize the need to keep operational costs in check."
AirPair Ethernet radios deliver high-performance,
interference-free transmission of real-time IP applications over
licensed radio frequencies in the 18-to-38-GHz range. DragonWave
is the only vendor today offering full duplex, wire-speed, 50-
and 100-Mbps connectivity in the millimeter-wave bands, with
in-band SNMP management and 802.1q VLAN support. AirPair is the
first Internet radio to provide guaranteed, interference-free,
100-Mbps performance in the recently announced unlicensed 24-GHz
(ISM) band. About DragonWave # # #
