D-Link Announces 54 Mbps 802.11G Dual Mode Chip
Solution Delivers Greater Performance D-Link, the worldwide leader in
manufacturing of networking, Broadband and digital electronic technologies,
today announced its AirPlus Xtreme G IEEE 802.11g draft compliant wireless
networking line of products. D-Link's new AirPlus Xtreme G products operate
at up to 54Mbps bandwidth in the 2.4GHz frequency range, making the D-Link G
solution a fast, flexible and scalable combination of speed and range.
Available in January 2003, D-Link's 802.11g product line includes the D-Link
AirPlus Xtreme G DI-624 Wireless Router with 4-Port Switch and the AirPlus
Xtreme G DWL-G650 Wireless CardBus Adapter.
Representing the next step in high-speed wireless networking, the D-Link
AirPlus Xtreme G products deliver a superior bandwidth and data rate
throughput and are able to provide 54Mpbs bandwidth capabilities in a 2.4GHz
environment by employing the technically advanced Orthogonal Frequency
Division Multiplexing (OFDM) modulation scheme. OFDM splits the wireless
signal into specific frequencies that are evenly spaced over time in order to
reduce interference. In the 2.4GHz range, the OFDM modulation ensures a
cleaner signal throughout the wireless network compared with the .11b standard
Direct Spread Spectrum Sequence (DSSS) modulation to better handle data
transmissions.
AirPlus Xtreme G provides superior compatibility in mixed networks with
both 802.11b and 802.11g wireless clients. Based on the Intersil Prism GT
chipset, Xtreme G is a dual mode chip solution that combines both 802.11b and
802.11g hardware into each unit. Simultaneously with the OFDM modulation
scheme, D-Link's AirPlus Xtreme G also employs the Complementary Code Keying
(CCK) modulation scheme used in 802.11b. In D-Link's Xtreme G solution, both
11b and 11g clients can transmit their respective data rates, creating a
hybrid environment that enables superior execution of communications for
clients using either standard.
"Our Xtreme G is fully scalable and gives users the best of both worlds --
the high speed performance of 11a and the stability and range of 11b," said
Steven Joe, President of D-Link. "The built-in multimode capability delivers
superior performance and maximum compatibility when Xtreme G is mixed with
existing 11b technology into one homogenous network."
D-Link's 802.11g products also provide 64/128-bit WEP encryption to ensure
a more secure transmission. 11 channels in the 2.4GHz range, 3 of which are
non-overlapping, reduce Co-Channel Interference to allow more users to connect
to the wireless network without causing latency.
D-Link AirPlus Xtreme G DI-624 Wireless Router w/4-Port Switch The DI-624 delivers sophisticated firewall protection, easily configured
through the advanced features section of the product's web-based interface.
The router features a high performance CPU to support advanced management
features such as MAC address authentication, Stateful Packet Inspection (SPI)
and Content Filtering. Advanced logging and filtering features provide
information about intruders to the administrator so that the appropriate
actions can be taken. Additionally, the DI-624 employs the basic parental
control features of URL blocking, Domain blocking and IP address filtering.
URL blocking allows parents to block web sites with domain names that contain
specific words. Domain blocking allows parents to block specific web sites
and related sub sites. IP address filtering allows parents to block any
specific IP addresses, even if the URLs change.
D-Link AirPlus Xtreme G DWL-G650 CardBus Adapter Price and Availability True Networking Pioneer and Hardware Manufacturer Since 1986 The company has increased its world-class production capacity to more than
a million square feet of manufacturing facilities in six state-of-the-art
factories in four countries -- Taiwan, China, India, and the United States.
With millions of Ethernet adapters and millions of hub and switch ports
manufactured and shipped, D-Link is a dominant market participant and
price/performance leader in the network and communications market. D-Link has
been profitable every year since its inception in 1986, and continues to grow
at a rate that will allow the Company to experience continued prosperity.
D-Link sets the standards for market affordability, while focusing on
"Building Networks For People."
