Boingo Wireless Announces 'Boingo Ready' Broadband
Wireless Certification Program for Hot Spot Equipment

Colubris, Nomadix and Vernier First to Provide
Boingo Ready Products to Wi-Fi Market

    Today, Boingo Wireless announced details of its "Boingo Ready" hardware certification program, including a list of the first products to be certified as Boingo Ready from industry leaders Colubris, Nomadix and Vernier Networks.

    Boingo Ready hot spot equipment undergoes extensive testing in Boingo's Wi-Fi lab to verify they will easily integrate with Boingo's roaming systems, which ensures that any Hot Spot Operator purchasing a Boingo Ready device can quickly become part of the Boingo aggregated hot spot network. The certification process checks that devices support customized access control, IP address assignment and management, secure web-based authentication and RADIUS authentication redirects, as well as support for other network management and connection standards.

    "As we've integrated more and more Hot Spot Operators into the Boingo network, it's become increasingly apparent that a common set of standards- based features makes the integration much easier," said Colby Goff, vice president of network strategy at Boingo Wireless. "Hot Spot Operators around the world are joining the Boingo aggregated network in order to drive demand to their locations. Now we can provide them a list of access control products from partners that will accelerate their integration into the Boingo network."

    Boingo Ready Products

Boingo Ready equipment provides Hot Spot Operators out-of-the-box compatibility with Boingo network back-end systems and services. Boingo Ready products come with a detailed white paper that describes how to configure the device to integrate with the Boingo Network. The individual white papers are also available for download from Boingo.com ( http://www.boingo.com/hso/boingoready.html ).

    The first Boingo Ready devices include:
     -- Colubris CN3000;
     -- Nomadix Universal Subscriber Gateway II;
     -- Vernier Networks AM 6000, CS 6000, and IS 6000;
     -- Boingo's own Boingo Hot Spot in a Box.

    Nomadix's original Universal Subscriber Gateway was previously certified as a Boingo enabled device and also meets Boingo Ready criteria.

    "We are excited to continue and deepen our relationship with Boingo as a charter member of the Boingo Ready program," said Barry Fougere, president and CEO of Colubris Networks. "Colubris and Boingo are mutually committed to the proposition that Wi-Fi must be secure, easily manageable and cost-effective to support ubiquitous deployments of all sizes. For small to mid-sized deployments we designed the CN3000, a purpose-built, 'one box' solution that embeds a Wi-Fi interoperable access point, integrated firewall and router, and secure access control in a single device."

    "As the leading Public-access solutions provider, powering thousands of HotSpot locations worldwide, we are committed to accelerating the growth of Wi-Fi networks while bringing a secure, reliable environment to the user," said Patrick Parker, CEO of Nomadix. "Partnering with Boingo, we're providing Hot Spot operators an easy-to-implement Wi-Fi solution that quickly translates into faster time to market and new revenue streams."

    "Vernier's Boingo Ready certification ensures that the integration into Boingo's network will be a seamless and non-disruptive transition for Hot Spot Operators," said Julian Richards, Senior Director of Product Marketing for Vernier Networks. "We offer products that are specifically tailored to conquer the manageability and security challenges presented within wireless networks. By using Vernier's enhanced accounting capabilities, wireless ISPs benefit further by being able to track the data usage and roaming activity for all of their mobile subscribers."

    The Boingo Ready certification program for hot spot equipment applies to equipment designed for stand-alone networks. There is also a Boingo Ready certification program for integrated solutions offered by Boingo service provider partners such as Pronto and NetNearU, which couple devices with authentication and billing services.

    Hot Spot Operators

Boingo Ready products integrate easily with the Boingo Network, so Hot Spot Operators interested in providing roaming access can tap Boingo's retail and partner subscriber bases, which represent millions of potential users.

    It's all about traffic and revenue. Boingo drives additional foot traffic to hot spots and pays access fees to the Hot Spot Operator whenever members connect. Hot Spot Operators who deploy Boingo Ready devices can also receive cash bounties when new Boingo subscribers sign up for service in their hot spot. Boingo handles the provisioning, authentication, marketing, billing and support costs for its members. This provides a faster path to profitability for Hot Spot Operators.
