Alvarion Announces the
BreezeACCESS Manages and monitors bandwidth, usage, and billing for greater Quality of
Service
Tel-Aviv, Israel, December 2, 2002 – Alvarion, Ltd., a leading provider of
Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) solutions, today announced the commercial
launch of its BreezeACCESS TM traffic management solution, which offers
wireless service providers a complete set of tools for the precise
management of their network services. An independent, stand-alone network
appliance that is an extension of the BreezeACCESS product line, the TM is
designed to facilitate subscription control, measure customer usage of
resources, and ensure adequate bandwidth support in wireless networks. It
allows service providers to monitor their broadband wireless access networks
by identifying bottlenecks or excessive bandwidth usage, enabling the
implementation of timely corrective actions. By managing their network
bandwidth, including bandwidth-hungry multimedia games and applications,
service providers can more easily fulfill their Service Level Agreements
(SLAs) and Quality of Service (QoS) commitments to their customers.
The TM builds on Alvarion's BreezeACCESS QoS/SLA capabilities, which are
based on Committed Information Rates and Maximum Information Rates at the
subscriber unit level. In a typical BreezeACCESS BWA network, the TM is
located at base station, and adds QoS and SLA parameters for ten levels of
traffic priorities, minimum/maximum bandwidth, guaranteed bandwidth, and
Committed Burst Rate (CBR). The TM matches a traffic session with a
subscriber and then forwards data packets according to the parameters of the
subscriber's SLA. As a result, bi-directional wireless network traffic for
every subscriber and application can be monitored, managed, and shaped.
Traffic supervision is accomplished through a user-friendly web browser
interface.
The TM also features an accounting services module and CCB integration,
which aid the measurement of customer resource usage for accurate billing.
A two-level pipe policy hierarchy defines pipe bandwidth according to the
user's SLA and then defines lower-level policies to control traffic per
application or IP address. The hierarchy also enables the dynamic
allocation of bandwidth and the automatic application of appropriate QoS
policies. Time-of-Day policies alter bandwidth according to the overall
network usage patterns, ensuring peak-time functionality for
business-critical applications. An additional software package integrates
per usage accounting and external customer care and billing systems.
"The BreezeACCESS TM marks a significant development in Alvarion's product
line and it's commitment to its customer's customer," said Amir Rosenzweig,
President of Alvarion, Inc. "By offering a network management component in
the BreezeACCESS family, we can further ensure the success of our service
provider's business and the satisfaction of their residential and business
subscribers."
The TM is available in four versions, each of which is optimized for a
variety of service provider needs, requirements, and subscriber counts. The
TM-502 is designed for network speeds up to 2Mbps and supports up to 12,000
simultaneous connections, 256 pipes, and 2,048 QoS policies. The TM-510 is
designed for network speeds up to 10Mbps and supports up to 20,000
simultaneous connections, 512 pipes, and 2,048 QoS policies. The TM-1045 is
designed for network speeds up to 45 Mbps and supports up to 64,000
simultaneous users, 1,024 pipes, and 4,096 QoS policies. The TM-1100 is
designed for network speeds up to 100 Mbps and supports up to 96,000
simultaneous users, 1,024 pipes, and 4,096 QoS policies. All four versions
feature three 10/100BaseT ports, including shaping, monitoring, and hardware
bypass.
About Alvarion Alvarion offers the broadest range of BWA solutions by market segment and
frequency band, designed to address all carrier's and service provider's
business models. With its combined market experience, strong customer base,
diversified distribution channels and field-proven deployments, Alvarion is
