Network Instruments'
Observer Now Includes 802.11 Wireless
Troubleshooting, Protocol Analysis, Decode and Trending
Observer 8.1 Offers Industry's
First-and-Only Wired and Wireless Analyzer In One Package
MINNEAPOLIS,
April 22, 2002 - Network Instruments, LLC, a leading developer of network
performance management and troubleshooting tools, Monday announced the addition
of wireless support to its acclaimed Observer(R) product line.
Wireless
support is seamlessly integrated with the existing features of Observer, Expert
Observer and the Observer Suite.
With its ease
of installation and portability, wireless networks are gaining popularity and
creating a host of new network troubleshooting issues for companies. Besides the
standard capacity and access issues, administrators now face additional security
and expandability concerns, as well as the challenge of integrating a new
technology into existing infrastructures.
Network
Instruments developed Observer's wireless capabilities to ease the increasingly
complex nature of network administrators' jobs.
"We saw
that the existing wireless analysis offerings were limited, both in the type of
troubleshooting information offered, and in their lack of integration of
standard wired protocol analysis tools," said Douglas Smith, president of
Network Instruments, LLC.
"Observer
products include the deepest wireless analysis feature set offered by any
product on the market, completely integrated with wired support -- all in one
package. After all, what company only has a wireless LAN? Almost without
exception, new wireless networks are connected to wired networks."
Network
Instruments has integrated a complete set of wireless troubleshooting and
measurement tools into the entire Observer product line, providing complete
support for Wireless 802.11, Ethernet, Token Ring and FDDI in a single,
affordable package.
In addition to
wireless troubleshooting tools, Observer offers a number of security and
intrusion detection facilities. These include the ability to alert
administrators when unauthorized users try to gain access to the WLAN, improper
WEP usage, and exposure of rouge access points.
"Observer's
new security screening features line up directly with my customers' concerns
regarding implementation of wireless in their organizations.
"The fact
full wireless and wired troubleshooting are combined into one product at one
price structure, makes this an easy message to deliver, and more importantly,
gives me a competitive advantage when selling the product against other wireless
analyzers," said David Wren of Network Technology Partners, an Observer
dealer from St. Louis, Mo.
