Mission Statement
About the Broadband Wireless
Alliance (BWA)
The BWA in a non-profit corporation was founded to
help individuals, groups and communities find the necessary information to
research, plan and build broadband wireless networks in areas without an
attractive broadband alternative. The
BWA provides a valuable pool of resources that enables interested parties to
seek out and build relationships with many industry groups and vendors that are
involved in building high-speed wireless Internet networks.
Mission:
The Broadband Wireless Alliance’s mission is to provide a resource for
engineering expertise, business planning services and financial funding to
existing or startup operators that desire to plan, launch and operate broadband
wireless networks.
Principles:
·
Support IEEE 802.x standards
·
Provide engineering profiles and certification of
equipment vendors
·
Provide engineering profiles of fully integrated
wireless networks
·
Provide successful business plans that ensure
profitability and growth
·
Provide financial funding for communities and
operators
·
Provide guidance and consulting expertise on
building broadband wireless networks in a real world environment
·
Provide an open environment that provides objective
evaluation and communication
·
Improve the potential for end user awareness and
acceptance of wireless technology
Goals:
·
To expand high-speed wireless technology as a
fundamental broadband Internet access methodology across a worldwide audience
·
Motivate vendors to increase functionality,
security and interoperability of broadband wireless equipment and operational
support systems
·
Motivate communities to seek out broadband wireless
as a successful means of delivering high-speed Internet connections to
residential and business customers
·
To reduce equipment costs through volume buying
power for operators
·
To streamline the approval process of integrated
wireless networks with the FCC
·
Reduce risks/fear factors for new operators
interested in wireless technology
·
Make it as easy as possible from someone with
little or no knowledge of wireless to launch a broadband wireless network within
their geographic location
·
Provide frequency coordination among operators in
order to promote roaming, increase revenue sharing, and provide ubiquitous
coverage of wireless access points
Methodology:
·
Provide a consolidated library of information and
research to be referenced when building and operating wireless networks
·
Open doorways for vendors seeking to sell products
and services to communities and operators that want to provide high-speed
Internet access
·
Provide avenues for financial investors to evaluate
and fund qualified wireless network operators and developing equipment and
software vendors
·
Provide uniform industry benchmarks for vendor and
service provider performance
·
Provide BWA Seal of Approval for qualified vendors
and service providers
