Mission Statement

About the Broadband Wireless Alliance (BWA)

The BWA in a non-profit corporation that was founded to help individuals, groups and communities find the necessary information to research, plan and build broadband wireless networks in areas without an attractive broadband alternative.  The BWA provides a valuable pool of resources that enables interested parties to seek out and build relationships with many industry groups and vendors that are involved in building high-speed wireless Internet networks.

Mission:  The Broadband Wireless Alliance's mission is to provide a resource for engineering expertise, business planning services and financial funding to existing or startup operators that desire to plan, launch and operate broadband wireless networks.

Principles:

        ·        Support IEEE 802.x standards
·        Provide engineering profiles and certification of equipment vendors
·       
Provide engineering profiles of fully integrated wireless networks
·        Provide successful business plans that ensure profitability and growth
·       
Provide financial funding for communities and operators
·       
Provide guidance and consulting expertise on building broadband wireless networks
·       
Provide an open environment that provides objective evaluation and communication
·       
Improve the potential for end user awareness and acceptance of wireless technology

Goals:

        ·        To expand high-speed wireless technology as a fundamental broadband Internet access methodology 
·       
Motivate vendors to increase functionality, security and interoperability of broadband wireless equipment 
·       
Motivate communities to seek out broadband wireless as a successful means of delivering high-speed Internet connections to residential and business customers
·       
To reduce equipment costs through volume buying power for operators
·       
To streamline the approval process of integrated wireless networks with the FCC
·       
Reduce risks/fear factors for new operators interested in wireless technology
·       
Make it as easy as possible from someone with little or no knowledge of wireless to launch a broadband wireless network within their geographic location
·       
Provide frequency coordination among operators in order to promote roaming, increase revenue sharing, and provide ubiquitous coverage of wireless access points

Methodology:

        ·        Provide a consolidated library of information and research to be referenced when building and operating wireless networks
·       
Open doorways for vendors seeking to sell products and services to communities and operators that want to provide high-speed Internet access

Provide avenues for financial investors to evaluate and fund qualified wireless network operators and developing equipment and software vendors

Provide uniform industry benchmarks for vendor and service provider performance

Provide BWA Seal of Approval for qualified vendors and service providers

Membership Requirements:

Membership to the BWA is open to anyone that has an interest in planning, funding, developing, building, regulating and/or operating broadband wireless networks.  The BWA encourages participation from all individuals, companies, groups, investors, associations, equipment vendors, wireless ISPs, and/or "hot-spots" providers that use or are interested in using unlicensed broadband wireless spectrum or Free Space Optics to provide high-speed Internet access or telecommunication services.

All members are requested to share their expertise, participate on working committees and contribute to the Broadband Wireless Technical and Business Resource Library.

Membership Fees:

Cornerstone Members $10,000 per year  (primary research access)
Working Committee Members $5,000 per year  (working committees)
Business Planning Members $2,000 per year  (business consultants access)
Entry Level Members $500 per year  (business library documentation access)
Advisory Level Members $50 per year  (press release distro list only)
